Youth Advisory Board Member
We’re looking for fantastic young people to join our Youth Advisory Board.
COME AS YOU ARE
You don’t need any specific skills or experiences; all you need is passion, ideas, and an interest to learn and work alongside others to make positive change.
WHAT TO EXPECT
For the next two years, the board will focus on campaigning on child poverty in the UK, as well as working together to influence and shape decisions across Save the Children’s work.
You’ll also have the choice to take part in a range of unique experiences. In the past, Youth Advisors have attended meetings with politicians, delivered speeches at events, engaged with media, and featured in Save the Children campaign videos.
WHAT WE’LL ASK OF YOU
-
A two-year commitment
-
Attend a virtual meeting the first Wednesday of every month, from 5pm-7pm
-
Attend, if possible, three in person meetings a year: two one-day meetings in spring and autumn and a summer residential
We understand that certain times of the year are busier than others, such as exam periods. As best as possible we will plan meetings during school holidays and times when most Youth Advisors are free.
We will cover all expenses related to any activity linked to the Youth Advisory Board, and we’ll discuss with each Advisor what other support you may need, whether its online or in person, to make sure you can attend meetings and/or events.
WHO CAN APPLY
To maintain the diversity of the board and make sure we’re representing young people fairly, it’s important that the board is made up of a range of people from different backgrounds and experiences.
You can apply if you:
-
Are aged 12-16
-
Live in the UK. We particularly encourage you to apply if you live in Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, the Midlands, and North of England
-
We are particularly keen to receive applications from young people from low-income backgrounds, diverse educational experiences, as well as young people who are LGBTQ+, disabled, young people of colour, young carers, and refugees
Please note: Unfortunately, you’re not able to apply if:
-
You are already a member of a youth board for a large national charity
-
You are related to a current member of the Youth Advisory Board
-
One of your parents or close family members works for Save the Children UK or sits on the Board of Trustees
