We’re looking for a Volunteer Team Recruiter to support us at the Northallerton Save the Children Shop. We want to raise the profile of our shop and available volunteering opportunities through online promotion and engagement with the local community. Your support will help us to grow our team, increase our trading hours, income and impact! We’re looking for someone that loves meeting new people and can support with recruitment fairs and pop up information stands at local venues.

Suggested Involvement

It’s up to you! This is a role that can be tailored around your availability and particular interests. We have volunteers who support for a couple of hours a week and some do more. Many people volunteer either a morning or an afternoon each week -this is something that will be discussed at the selection stage, after you’ve applied. You might want to base yourself in the shop or travel around the local area or some activities might be suitable for remote at home volunteering.

Volunteering as a Team Recruiter

We know that our shop teams are stronger when they are inclusive and representative of their communities. Everybody can make a real difference. Our volunteer Shop Recruiters our vital to the successful operations of our shops. They promote our volunteer opportunities in their local communities as well as online, support applicants though our onboarding process and give everyone a warm and inclusive welcome into Save the Children.

Skills and Experiences Required

We welcome applications from people with a wide range of skills and experiences. Full training and ongoing support will be provided but good organisational skills and local knowledge of the area will come in handy. You’ll also need to be comfortable chatting to people on the phone. This is a really important role within the team with plenty of scope to bring your own creativity and imagination to it! Whether you want to build and evidence this skillset on your cv or you are keen to share your expertise in recruitment and community engagement, what’s important to us is that you are a team player, open to learning and willing to follow Save the Children’s policies as well as be an excellent representative for Save the Children

What happens next?

We also ask for two references. (Both referees should be people who are 18 years of age or older, and aren't related to you. One referee should be someone you know from a formal setting - work, school, volunteering, a faith leader, social or youth worker, etc.)

After you’ve filled in an application, we will invite you for an informal trial shift. It’s a great opportunity to visit the shop, meet some of our existing volunteers and have a go at some of the shop tasks. We’ll also take the time at this informal trial shift to chat through some questions with you, specific to the Team Recruiter role – about how and where you would recruit other volunteers. We will provide you these questions in advance, hopefully allowing you to get a feel for the role and make sure it’s for you

Once you start in the role we recommend volunteering 3-4 shifts in the shop so that you can meet the team and get a feel for what you are promoting. Then, you'll complete an online course covering promotional techniques, our volunteer management system and data protection. After that you'll be good to go - and will be supported ongoing by the brilliant existing volunteer team.

How you’ll hear about your application

Once you’ve applied, you’ll receive notifications to the email address you apply with. Sometimes the emails we send about your application go into junk folders.
